On Campus

For decades, WUSC has linked Canadian post-secondary institutions to our work overseas. Through our campus programs, WUSC provides a bridge that allows the global exchange of knowledge and skills.

WUSC engages students, faculty, staff and institutions on over 80 Canadian campuses through:

Students Without Borders™

In an increasingly connected world, it is becoming vital for Canadian university and college students from various faculties to apply and share their knowledge and skills globally. Through SWB, students are provided with an internship opportunity to work and contribute to development projects with WUSC’s local partner organizations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Based on a “needs driven” approach, both the student and the local partner organization benefit from such an experience.

Results: 
  • 55+ Canadian university and colleges had their students participate in SWB
  • 600+ Students have been placed for overseas placements in
  • 13 Countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America working in
  • 15+ Different sectors of work. including agriculture, communications, health and information technology

How to Apply
You must submit the following documents to swb@wusc.ca:

  • a copy of your résumé
  • letter of intent outlining why you are applying for a particular placement
  • three reference letters (including two academic)
  • a list of no more than three (3) placements to which you wish to apply.

If you are applying for more than one placement, please indicate an order of preference in your letter of intent.


Any current or recently graduated student from a Canadian university or college is eligible to apply for a SWB placement.

CGCE: On the Brink of 2015: A Shift in Focus from Education for All to Learning for All

International Development Week

International Development Week (IDW) is celebrated each year in Canada during the first full week of February. It provides a unique opportunity to learn more about Canada's role in international development and the important contribution of many Canadians in developing countries.

University and College Partnerships

Universities and Colleges play an important role in providing sound academic expertise in development initiatives. With our ability to link Canada’s universities and colleges to our work in international development and cooperation, WUSC has been leveraging this expertise for over 60 years.

More than 40 post-secondary institutions across Canada - including universities, community colleges and CEGEPs - are members of WUSC, contributing valuable insight in our policies, vision and programs.

Public Engagement

WUSC believes in the power of volunteers, with a particular focus on youth, to shape the world around them. We know that people want to help reduce global poverty and, with the proper tools, they can make a difference in their communities that affects change around the world.

Refugee Sponsorship

Whether because of war, political repression or environmental reasons, young men and women are often forced to flee their home countries, only to face the harsh conditions of life in a refugee camp. Opportunities for refugees to pursue higher education are virtually non-existent, leaving many bright and talented students unable to achieve their academic or professional goals.
