The Girls Education Unit is located in Accra and coordinates the activities of all Girls Education officers in the districts and regions across Ghana.  Accra is the national capital of Ghana.  Accra is a sprawling metrópolis and boasts of a population of five million people.  Ghana has a tropical climate that varies from a warm dry coastal belt and a hot humid south-west corner to a hot dry northern Savannah. Accra, though on the coast has very high humidity. English is the official language of Ghana; in Accra Twi and Ga are widely spoken.  As a metrópolis, there are many hospitals and clinics; banks and financial institutions; schools and educational institutions; hotels and restaurants of many nationalities.
