Grant MacEwan falls in love with Bike for AIDS!

This Valentine’s Day the Grant MacEwan Local Committee in Edmonton, held an original “Bike 4 AIDS Love” event. Their unique spin on the love-themed day helped raise awareness on HIV and AIDS on their campus, while fundraising for bicycles and bicycle-ambulances purchased and outfitted for health workers in Malawi.

For their special campus Bike for AIDS campaign events, they set up a stationary bike, put together an interactive spinning wheel (made with a bicycle wheel!) and presented short informative videos on the impacts of HIV and AIDS. Drawing from the videos and strategically placed information posters, students spun the wheel to learn about WUSC’s impact overseas and Uniterra’s Bike for AIDS campaign. A fun Valentine’s Day photo booth with silly props was also set up to attract students to the Bike for AIDS Love event in University Center.

The Grant MacEwan WUSC Local Committee attributes its success to the dedication and vision of its members who are driven to continue engaging their campus on the impact of HIV and AIDS. A follow-up Wax for AIDS fundraiser event in late March not only garnered a lot of additional attention on social media, but permitted the students to further raise over 1000$ (or two bicycle-ambulances) in support of Bike for AIDS.
