Youth connect on international development at the 2014 Uniterra Leadership Meeting!

This past August, 70 WUSC Local Committee student-representative from 55 campuses across Canada joined forces in Ottawa-Gatineau for the 2014 Uniterra Leadership Meeting!

Every year, WUSC Campus Engagement’s most important kick-off training for the academic year strives to create a space of Local Committee learning, best practice sharing and new cross-campus friendships. The 2014 edition of the Uniterra Leadership Meeting was no exception!

Over 3 days, our dynamic Local Committee members trained on how to mobilize their campus through WUSC’s campaigns and explored team leadership styles, all the while strengthening their knowledge of WUSC programs, Uniterra overseas opportunities for students, and the Student Refugee Program. The Leadership Meeting also connected students with each other by regions and offered opportunities to examine intercultural communication and inter-personal conflict resolution.

One of the weekend’s highlights includes a student-led Bike for AIDS campaign flashmob in downtown Ottawa! Our members collected funds from the general public in one short hour while informing them of Uniterra’s impact in Malawi in supporting women affected by HIV and AIDS.

Students returned to their campus reenergized and ready to mobilize their campus on the positive impact of international development. Thanks to all the participants for their contributions! We look forward to hosting the next WUSC national youth training at the WUSC and CECI International Forum in Montreal in January 2015.
