Once again this year, WUSC and CECI partnered to present our annual International Forum, an exciting gathering where the best ideas and practices for international development are shared. From January 22 to 23, the Forum brought together over 500 government delegates, northern international cooperation organizations, southern civil society actors and representatives from the private sector, as well as youth, researchers and international development specialists, to connect and engage on some of the most critical global issues.
The Forum is also an opportunity for our campus-based Local Committees to learn more about WUSC’s mission and programs, including the Student Refugee Program and Uniterra - a joint international volunteer cooperation of WUSC and CECI. While attending the Forum, these students also receive training to improve their ability to raise awareness about international development on their campuses. Some Local Committee sessions are specifically intended for students sponsored through our Student Refugee Program, where we help them to develop strategies for managing the challenges and opportunities they may be facing on campus and in the community as a newcomer to Canada.
One of our Local Committee members, Heather Dirckze, developed a video featuring some of the highlights from this year's Local Committee training at the Forum. We invite you to watch it and share it broadly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD6YEyLA9jE&feature=youtu.be
