Since 1978, WUSC Local Committees have sponsored more than 2000 student refugees to resettle in Canada and pursue their higher education through the Student Refugee Program (SRP).

Nature and Scope:

Reporting to the SRP Manager – Overseas Programming, the Program Assistant will assist in the activities under a special initiative, supporting the engagement and employment of alumni from the Student Refugee Program in the “Federal Internship for Newcomers (FIN)” operated by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to the FIN initiative, including:

  • Program support:
  • Coordinate the scheduling of research activities, including arranging interview and Focus Group Discussion (FGDs) logistics
  • Support in identifying and securing the most relevant technology for conducting surveys and other research activities
  • Prepare and send out online surveys and/or mass emails
  • Support the Program officer with maintaining correspondence from SRP alumni
  • Providing or arranging for the translation of research tools (English to French)
  • Administrative and financial support:
    • Updating and maintaining the SRP alumni database
  • Coordinate honorarium payments for the peer facilitators and research participants
  • Prepare requisitions and manage bill payments related to the FIN initiative
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education

  • Diploma, Bachelor’s degree in a related field (administration, social sciences, marketing, international development, public administration), or equivalent with relevant experience.

Experience & Competencies

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details, including ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple initiatives simultaneously;
  • Solid computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, database management, electronic mail and graphics;
  • Strong interpersonal skills: able to work well with teams under tight deadlines;
  • At least two years of experience in a similar field (administrative, planning, project management), overseas experience an asset;
  • Experience working in an NGO environment and in donor-funded projects considered an asset;
  • Ability to translate French-English documents; and
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Curious, enthusiastic and willing to innovate and adapt.

Languages:

  • Bilingual English/French (fluency essential)
