Are you a passionate HR professional? WUSC is currently looking for a Senior HR Officer to provide recruitment and other HR support in Canada and (remotely) abroad.

BACKGROUND

WUSC is a Canadian non-profit organization working to create a better world for all young people. We bring together a diverse network of students, volunteers, schools, governments, and businesses who share this vision. Together, we develop solutions in education, economic opportunities, and empowerment to overcome inequality and exclusion for youth around the world, particularly young women and young refugees. WUSC currently works in 25 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean, with an annual budget of approximately CAD $40 million. We have over 90 staff in our Ottawa office, and over 200 people overseas implementing 16 development projects in collaboration with donors such as Global Affairs Canada, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the MasterCard Foundation, and the African Development Bank.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Officer is responsible for delivering all facets of WUSC’s recruitment process for Canadian staff and providing recruitment support to the global team, as well as for coordinating the onboarding and professional development of WUSC personnel. The Senior Human Resources Officer will play a critical role in ensuring we are hiring and developing the best possible talent.

Support the full recruitment cycle (80%)

  • Develop and execute recruiting plans with hiring managers
  • Assist hiring manager on creating or updating job descriptions
  • Prepare the job postings, collect and review the resumes, perform pre-screening, coordinate and participate in interviews, coordinate tests and complete reference checks
  • Efficiently and effectively fill open positions
  • Utilize social media and other websites for active and passive recruitment
  • Develop a pool of qualified candidates
  • Communicate with managers and employees regularly to establish rapport, gage morale, and source new candidate leads
  • Manage the use of recruiters and headhunters when appropriate
  • Maintain all pertinent applicant and interview data in the HR filing and information system (Mindscope / Salesforce)
  • Assist in preparing and sending offer packages
  • Coordinate and implement University and College recruiting and internship (and volunteer) initiatives

Coordinate Onboarding and Offboarding

  • Coordinate onboarding process for new hires
  • Coordinate offboarding process for leaving employees
  • Conduct exit interviews

Logistical Support for Training Activities

  • Organize the WUSC new staff orientation training session
  • Coordinate LMS access and learning activities for global staff
  • Coordinate logistical support for training activities at WUSC

General Support to HR

  • Coordinate and support engagement activities for staff (i.e global staff meetings, annual holiday parties, employee fun days, employee appreciation activities);
  • Ensure the HR section of the intranet is updated regularly.
  • Complete administrative tasks for HR (i.e. invoice and requisitions for HR expenses).

  • Create a working environment is free from sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (SEAH)
  • Ensure high standards of prevention and response measures for SEAH are in place consistent with the WUSC’s safeguarding policies and WUSC’s Code of Conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education

  • University or college graduate in a related field or equivalent working experience

Experience & Competencies

  • Three years of experience in Human Resources with an emphasis in recruitment
  • Experience using online recruitment techniques, tools and systems
  • Experience with an HRIS and Applicant Tracking System (ATS) preferably with Mindscope or Salesforce
  • Solid experience in dealing with HR related issues
  • Experience in the International Development sector preferred
  • Ability to work across different countries and cultures
  • Knowledge of Human Resources practices and the Ontario Employment Standards Act
  • Client service orientation
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent ability to multitask with multiple competing deadlines
  • Strong administrative and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft office and Google Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French
  • Curious, enthusiastic and willing to innovate and adapt

Languages

  • Complete fluency in both English and French is required.
