As the Resource Mobilization Advisor with LÁfrikanaI, you will support the organization to develop a resource mobilization strategy to secure funds for their ongoing operations and programs. You will also support staff in using online and digital platforms, provide guidance on diversifying the funding sources, identify funding opportunities and assist in grant proposals.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Support the development of a resource mobilization strategy
- Identify funding opportunities and assist in developing grant proposals
- Identify resource mobilization opportunities using digital platforms, and provide guidance on establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with donors using online tools
- Support in developing an online resource mobilization plan with specific time frames
- Support in developing tools for monitoring and evaluation to accompany the resource mobilization strategy
- Support donor mapping and strategic partnership development
- Participate in pre-assignment training
- Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment.
- Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal.
- Ensure that a gender equality lens is consistently applied in the execution of all activities.
- Support partners to empower young women and promote a culture of gender sensitive representation in all activities and program benefits.
- Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.
Experience and Qualifications
- Degree and/or training in social sciences, business administration, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in developing institutional partnerships
- Experience with resource mobilization and fundraising, especially through digital tools in the not-for-profit sector
- Experience in developing resource mobilization strategies
- A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering.
- Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
- Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
- Experience living and working internationally considered an asset.
- Written and oral fluency in English.
Volunteering for development is one of the important ways in which WUSC pursues its mission. The IGNI+E project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, supports over 70 partner organizations to advance gender equality and the economic empowerment of 1.2 million youth around the world. IGNI+E harnesses the knowledge, capacity and expertise of skilled Canadians through volunteer assignments and public engagement activities to assist partners in improving their performance, advocating for gender equality, and implementing more sustainable, innovative and inclusive initiatives and services for poor and marginalised youth, particularly young women. Overseas, our volunteers collaborate with a wide variety of partners, including enterprise and social enterprise development incubators, skills training centres, women's organizations, and youth groups. In Canada, WUSC works with institutions and individuals to identify, prepare, and support volunteers who travel overseas to support our partners. Our network in Canada also works with WUSC to raise awareness among Canadians to inspire greater action on global development issues. Our collective focus is on sustainable and inclusive changes to create a better world for youth.
L’Afrikana is a registered refugee-led community based organisation whose aim is to empower fellow refugees and the local community. L’Afrikana believes that the needs of refugees and of the marginalised members of society are better understood and addressed by the refugees themselves. L’Afrikana is convinced that the more refugees are involved in finding solutions to the challenges they encounter, the lighter the global burden of refugee service delivery becomes and the greater is the impact of such services to the community. L’Afrikana seeks to be a channel of transformation through which refugees can play an active role in finding solutions to challenges they face and eventually contribute to their welfare as well as to the social and economic development of their host nation Kenya. The activities at L’Afrikana are, on a daily basis, geared towards making that conviction a reality. Refugees have knowledge and skills, which they can use to improve their livelihood and benefit the local community around them. At L’Afrikana, refugees use their skills, talents, knowledge and abilities to help themselves and to change lives in the community.L’Afrikana’s approach is simple: they simply use what they have to transform people’s lives! L’Afrikana reaches over 5,000 refugees annually.
- Support and guidance from the WUSC Volunteer Mobilization Team prior to departure and from WUSC Country Team while on assignment
- Participation in a pre-departure training where you will have the opportunity to learn about the program, gain practical skills for living and working in an intercultural context and meet other volunteers
- Travel, meals and accommodation are covered during in-person pre-departure
- In-country orientation upon arrival in country of assignment
- Language training in country of assignment, where required

WUSC has resumed planning and recruitment for international departures for our volunteer assignments from, earliest, October 2021. However, the current global context continues to evolve and, as we continue to closely monitor international, national and local health information and guidelines, our plans and timelines are subject to change. The health and safety of our partners and our volunteers is our top priority and, as such, we are undertaking a rigorous international volunteer resumption planning process. A number of conditions will need to be met before an assignment will be given the green light to proceed, including the lifting of Canada's non-essential travel restrictions. All individuals considering volunteering internationally with WUSC must demonstrate openness, flexibility and accept to meeting the following conditions:
- Volunteers must be fully vaccinated (two vaccine doses) against COVID-19 and be able to provide evidence of vaccination.
- Volunteers must meet Canadian and Assignment Country Government and airline requirements related to PCR testing.
- Volunteers must agree to follow all COVID-19 mitigation instructions as issued by the Canadian Government, WUSC and by the local authorities in the country of assignment.
