2021-2022 Annual Report: Working Towards A Better Future For Youth

With our global network of 355 partners in 20 countries, we have made important progress toward our vision of a better world for all young people.

Through our programming, we directly reached 280,000 youth with new education, economic, and empowerment opportunities and supported over 1.8 million additional people, helping to improve their quality of life as well as the quality of life of their families and communities. Our work also focuses on systems change, aiming to create sustainable changes that have the potential to positively impact many more generations to come.

We invite you to read our latest Annual Report to learn more about the impact of our work together. Here are just some of the highlights from this past year:

  • Due to the devastating impact of the pandemic on girls and young women, especially in areas affected by conflict, we increased our focus on cash transfers and new approaches to community engagement to support access to quality education for girls.
  • We supported our partners to improve their policies and practices relating to gender equality and social inclusion. With our volunteers, 352 partner staff received training on these topics.
  • We concluded an initiative in Ghana, Guinea, and Burkina Faso that supported communities to increase the socio-economic benefits of mineral extractive investment, by strengthening local governance approaches to development planning and fostering more entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.
  • In Canada, we created a new pathway to promote the resettlement of refugee athletes. Refugee Olympic Team athletes Rose, Paulo, and James were part of the first ever cohort of the Refugee Athlete Stream of our long-standing Student Refugee Program and are now pursuing their post-secondary studies at Sheridan College.
  • We also launched an employment-linked sponsorship program in partnership with the hospitality and tourism industry in British Columbia.
  • As the crisis in Afghanistan deepened, we worked with our network of Canadian post-secondary institutions to mobilize greater support for Afghan refugees through the Student Refugee Program
  • This year also marked the inception of new projects focusing on gender-lens investment, women’s entrepreneurship, climate change in sub-Saharan Africa, and sexual and reproductive health and rights in Cote d’Ivoire.

We would like to thank our incredible network, including partners, donors, institutions, and volunteers, from across the country and around the world for their support last year.
