Looking for a chance to experience another culture and share your own? WUSC's International Student Management is always looking for Homestay families and individuals to house an international student from Botswana starting at every start of the university year.
What does being a host mean?
The roles and responsibilities of a Homestay Host are to provide the student with room and board. In return, the host receives an honorarium to cover the cost of food and incidentals.
These students are coming to Canada for the first time to complete a four year university degree in Canadian post-secondary institutions and most likely need support with the following activities:
- opening a bank account
- finding a place to stay during their studies
- discovering local public transportation
- discovering local attractions
- discovering the Canadian culture
The homestay program offers a unique opportunity to share the ins and outs of Canadian culture with a young student coming here for the first time. As a host, you provide the first impression and support the student’s transition into a new lifestyle.
Should you be interested in living this rewarding exchange, please fill out the host registration form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include “Homestay” as the subject. You can also send it through mail at 1404 Scott Street, Ottawa ON K1Y 4M8. The homestay coordinator will contact you during the summer.
