Remembering Peter Loan (1950 – 2012)
WUSC is deeply saddened to hear about the death of former WUSC co-worker and friend Peter Loan. Peter passed away in his sleep of heart failure on December 23rd, 2012 in Jerusalem, Israel.
Peter joined the WUSC team in 1984 and worked in several different areas during his time here including: Program Officer for the Zimbabwe Education Program, Deputy Director for the Relief & Recovery Program, Manager of the Indonesia Program, Country Director Peru, Deputy Director Overseas Program and Director of Program Development.
In 1995, Peter left WUSC to work for the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) and Hickling. In 2008, Peter rejoined WUSC as the Country Director Sri Lanka and in 2011 was hired as the Director for the Afghanistan Education program. Most recently, he was on an assignment with the Association for Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) in Tanzania.
Born in Toronto, Ontario on August 13th, 1950, to Russell and Juanita Loan, Peter loved music, dancing tango and spending time with his family. He dedicated his career to improving education by managing various international development projects.
He is survived by his mother, his wife Elizabeth, his brother David and sister Cathy, his daughter Julia, his son Christopher, his daughter-in-law Jennifer and his grandchildren Zoë and Vincent.
