Assignment Context

Are you passionate about media management and team empowerment? Do you have resource mobilization skills to share? 

As the Resource Mobilization Advisor with Timveni in Lilongwe, Malawi, you will support the organization in conducting donor mapping and developing a resource mobilization strategy to secure funds for ongoing operations. In this role, you will also support the development of funding proposals and concepts.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with staff, conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to identify Timveni media’s resource mobilization gaps, opportunities, and strengths
  • Develop a tailored resource mobilization strategy and plan aligned with the partners goals and objectives
  • Participate in the training, capacity-building and coaching of staff on resource mobilization, fundraising, and donor engagement
  • Collaborate with the partner to ensure that youth, particularly young women and marginalized youth, are included in any capacity strengthening activities focusing on program development and resource mobilization
  • Ensure an ESCA lens is applied when defining the organization’s services and programs
  • Ensure that a gender equality lens is consistently applied in the execution of all activities
  • Support partners to empower young women and promote a culture of gender sensitive representation in all activities and program benefits  
  • Participate in pre-assignment training
  • Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment
  • Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal
  • Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in social sciences, business administration, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in developing institutional partnerships
  • Experience with fundraising and resource mobilization within the not-for-profit sector
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant professional experience in your field of expertise
  • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
  • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
  • Experience living and working internationally considered an asset
  • Written and oral fluency in English.

Partner Description

Timveni is a youth media organization working to empower youth to understand their human rights and responsibilities as citizens. Timveni has evolved from a radio project to an independent institution and acts as a platform for youth to discuss challenges in their communities. Timveni encourages youth to make observations, integrate these observations into a positive world view, and express them through speeches, music and other creative expressions. Timveni is able to facilitate engagement between youth within and across districts to communicate their views to decision makers in Malawi via the Timveni Radio and Timveni Television platforms.
