As the Event PLanning and Forum Advisor in Accra Ghana, you will support the partner Farm Radio International, chair of all Non-Governmental Organization Forum Advisor. In this role, you will coordinate, manage, and administer functions within the organization for all forum members and ensure effective communication, collaboration, and coordination among member organizations, as well as provide administrative support to ensure smooth operations of the International Non-Governmental Forum.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the team, assist in the coordination of the planning of events, workshops, and conferences organized by the Forum
  • Provide administrative support to ensure smooth operations of the forum, including managing correspondence, organizing meetings, and maintaining records
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, local partners and civil society organizations
  • Coordinate and contribute to policy analysis, research, and advocacy efforts on key issues related to the development sector
  • Research and pursue funding opportunities in to support of the activities and initiatives
  • Prepare regular reports on the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate with members on joint advocacy efforts and initiatives to amplify the collective voice of the International Non-Governmental Forum
  • Research and pursue funding opportunities in to support of the activities and initiatives
  • Identify capacity building needs of member organizations and coordinate training programs and workshops in addressing the needs
  • Ensure that a gender equality lens is consistently applied in the execution of all activities
  • Ensure that an environmental sustainability lens is consistently applied in the execution of all activities and that partners are supported to scan for opportunities to include climate action in their operations, programming and governance
  • Participate in pre-assignment training
  • Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment
  • Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal
  • Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in social science, international development, business administration, or a related field
  • Ability to plan and organize public events
  • Knowledge of donor landscape locally and internationally
  • Conversant with project proposal development
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional experience in your field of expertise
  • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
  • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Knowledge of donor landscape locally and internationally
  • Experience with group facilitation and training, including content development considered an asset
  • Experience living and working internationally is considered an asset
  • Written and oral fluency in English.

Project Description

Volunteering for development is one of the important ways in which WUSC pursues its mission. The IGNI+E project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, supports over 70 partner organizations to advance gender equality and the economic empowerment of 1.2 million youth around the world. IGNI+E harnesses the knowledge, capacity and expertise of skilled Canadians through volunteer assignments and public engagement activities to assist partners in improving their performance, advocating for gender equality, and implementing more sustainable, innovative and inclusive initiatives and services for poor and marginalised youth, particularly young women. Overseas, our volunteers collaborate with a wide variety of partners, including enterprise and social enterprise development incubators, skills training centres, women's organizations, and youth groups. In Canada, WUSC works with institutions and individuals to identify, prepare, and support volunteers who travel overseas to support our partners. Our network in Canada also works with WUSC to raise awareness among Canadians to inspire greater action on global development issues. Our collective focus is on sustainable and inclusive changes to create a better world for youth.

Partner Description

Farm Radio International (FRI) is a Canadian non-profit organization at the forefront of Information and Communications Technology – enabled extensions and communications for scale. Farm Radio International’s interactive rural radio approach addresses the information, communication and extension needs of millions of small-scale farmers, rural entrepreneurs and citizens. Farm Radio International’s core expertise is collaborative, results-based program development combining radio and mobile phones, and other Information Communications Technology and face-to-face interaction. They have developed a series of interactive radio-based approaches tailored to achieve different outcomes: awareness, knowledge; market linkages; adoption of good practice; and changes in attitude and behavior.
