As an Environmental Sustainability Officer, you will be pivotal in connecting the private sector with Technical Universities and Vocational Training Centers to foster eco-friendly practices and green technologies. This role is crafted for a proactive individual with a deep commitment to environmental stewardship, who can utilize their expertise in private sector engagement to enhance the TAWASOL project’s impact. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments to identify environmental impacts associated with project activities
  • Ensure compliance with environmental strategy and indicators
  • Raise awareness about the importance of environmental considerations among youth participants and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with project partners, including private sector companies, to promote green jobs and sustainable practices
  • Ensure all project activities prioritize gender inclusivity and environmental sustainability
  • Support managers in their daily tasks and activities
  • Participate in pre-assignment training
  • Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment.
  • Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following: Environmental Science, Climate Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Policy, Sustainability Studies, Ecology, Geography
  • Passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to promoting green practices
  • Background in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in conducting environmental assessments and implementing sustainability initiatives is an asset
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant professional experience in your field of expertise.
  • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
  • Experience living and working internationally considered an asset.
  • Written and oral fluency in English.

Partner Description

The Southern Technical University was established in middle of August in 2014 and it linked to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The headquarters of the university in the province of Basra, where this development comes based on technical scientific expansion requirements in south of Iraq to be an important addition. Its counterparts from technical and academic universities Scattered in Iraq
