Assignment Context

Are you passionate about youth empowerment and education? Do you have e-learning design and development skills to share? 

As the E-Learning Design and Development Advisor with Jamaica 4-H Clubs in Kingston, Jamaica, you will support Jamaica 4-H Clubs Clover Online Training Institute (COTI) to design and develop their free online courses to 4-H clubs, leaders, agri-project participants, and other Jamaica 4-H Club stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in gathering information for course material for courses in Agriculture, Home Economics Value Addition, Environmental and Climate Change
  • Create and edit multimedia content (audio, video, images) for course content using appropriate image and video software
  • Liaise with the Jamaica 4-H Clubs Public Relations Unit on the promotion of the Clover Online Training Institute
  • Participate in pre-assignment training
  • Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment.
  • Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal.
  • Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

  • E-Learning content development experience
  • Knowledge of ELearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS), especially Moodle as a course management system
  • Proficient in the use of photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop/Gimp
  • Proficient in the use of video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro / Shotcut
  • Strong writing, storyboarding, and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant professional experience in your field of expertise.
  • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
  • Experience living and working internationally considered an asset.
  • Written and oral fluency in English.

Project Description

WUSC Caribbean is implementing a five-year project – the Sustainable Agriculture in the Caribbean (SAC) project, which will promote climate resilient agriculture for equitable economic growth to increase the economic prosperity of women and youth (female and male) in more sustainable agricultural markets in the Caribbean. The project builds on learning from the Promotion of Regional Opportunities for Produce through Enterprises and Linkages (PROPEL) project and is a multi-country economic growth project, funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) being implemented in Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and Suriname.

Partner Description

The Jamaica 4-H Clubs is a statutory body incorporated under the Jamaica 4-H Clubs Act of 1966 and operates as an Agency within the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Its main objective is to achieve the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries’ main programme, Agriculture Production and Productivity and Food Security: through the Youth in Agriculture and Entrepreneurship Development Sub-Programme. The Organization’s mandate is to stimulate and empower youth to become engaged in the agricultural sector. Its key activities include training in agriculture, leadership, adaptable technologies, climate change management, entrepreneurship, value added agriculture, tutorial models demonstrated through production centres of excellence and school gardens, business coaching and technical/extension services and other related areas. These activities are geared towards improving the skill-set of youth and future farmers in a bid to improve agricultural production and productivity.

Support Package

  • Support and guidance from the WUSC Volunteer Mobilization Team prior to departure and from WUSC Country Team while on assignment
