As an Environmental Sustainability Officer, you will be pivotal in integrating the environmental and green practices into BUCRA’s project activities and provide capacity strengthening to partner staff. Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to identify how to better integrate environmental sensitivity with project activities in the childcare sector
- Ensure compliance with environmental strategy and indicators
- Raise awareness about the importance of environmental considerations among staff, partners, participants and stakeholders
- Collaborate with project partners, to promote sustainable practices in the childcare sector
- Ensure all project activities prioritize gender inclusivity and environmental sustainability
- Support team staff in their daily tasks and activities
- Participate in pre-assignment training
- Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment.
- Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal.
- Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following: Environmental Science, Climate Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Policy, Sustainability Studies, Ecology, Geography
- Passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to promoting green practices
- Background in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in conducting environmental awareness sessions and implementing sustainability initiatives is an asset
Project Description
Burden of Childcare Reduced and Addressed for Women in Jordan (BUCRA – meaning Tomorrow in Arabic) is a 5-year initiative (2024-2029) designed to enhance the economic empowerment of women in Jordan. BUCRA takes a systems approach that engages and supports local stakeholders from government, training bodies, the private sector and communities to drive gender-transformative change that addresses the most pressing childcare issues preventing women from participating in the workforce in Jordan. BUCRA targets over 8,600 women in 7 regions. The approach of equipping key stakeholders to address systemic barriers will enable the impacts to be experienced by women throughout Jordan over the long term.

World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, employment and empowerment opportunities to women and youth around the world.In Jordan, Burden of Childcare Reduced and Addressed for Women in Jordan (BUCRA – meaning Tomorrow in Arabic) is a 5-year initiative (2024-2029) designed to enhance the economic empowerment of women in Jordan. BUCRA takes a systems approach that engages and supports local stakeholders from government, training bodies, the private sector and communities to drive gender-transformative change that addresses the most pressing childcare issues preventing women from participating in the workforce in Jordan. Support Package
- Support and guidance from the WUSC Volunteer Mobilization Team prior to departure and from WUSC Country Team while on assignment
- Pre-departure training to learn about the volunteering for development program, gain practical skills for living and working in an intercultural context and network with other volunteers
