Assignment Context

As the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Advisor with NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGO-GCN) in Lilongwe, Malawi, you will provide support in improving gender equality policies and resources, and mentor and train staff to become gender champions.

Roles and Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the NGO-GCN team, review the gender equality, and harassment and discrimination policy to confirm their alignment and relevance with international standards
- Develop communications materials and content on gender equality, harassment, and discrimination to increase awareness on rights of workers
- Conduct mentorship training to provide staff the opportunity to champion gender equality
- Provide support in planning events including a gender learning and sustainability symposium
- Ensure that a gender equality lens is consistently applied in the execution of all communication activities and women stories are highlighted
- Ensure an environmental and sustainability climate action lens is applied during training delivery and printing of materials
- Participate in pre-assignment training
- Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment
- Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal
- Ensure that a gender equality lens is consistently applied in the execution of all activities
- Support partners to empower young women and promote a culture of gender sensitive representation in all activities and program benefits
- Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.
Experience and Qualifications
- Degree in gender or women’s studies, social sciences, or equivalent experience in gender and women’s rights, or a relevant field
- A minimum of 2 years experience in gender equality and developing policy
- Experience drafting content related to gender equality for publications, digital communications material and reporting
- Knowledge and experience in monitoring and evaluation will be an asset
- A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
- Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
- Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
- Experience living and working internationally considered an asset
- Written and oral fluency in English.
Partner Description
The Non-Governmental Organizations Gender Coordination Network (NGO-GCN) is a network of over 50 organizations that coordinate gender and women’s rights activities in Malawi. They seek to promote gender equality and women empowerment through civic education, capacity building, advocacy, research and knowledge management, networking and information sharing among members and stakeholders in Malawi. NGO-GCN works to enhance gender interventions through five thematic areas: Women in Politics and Decision Making, Child Rights, Gender Based Violence, Gender Related Laws and Agriculture and Economic Empowerment. They work through coordination, lobbying, advocacy, information sharing and capacity building. The network has contributed to gender equality and equity, and building organizational and individual capacities to manage issues of gender equality and equity.
