INTRODUCTION

World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a leading Canadian international development organization contracted by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to implement the Field Support Services Project (FSSP) in the Caribbean. The FSSP Caribbean (FSSP-C) provides technical, procurement and logistical support to the Government of Canada’s Caribbean Regional Development Program (CRDP), specifically the Official Development Assistance (ODA) eligible countries.[1]

The FSSP Caribbean is currently contracting the services of an experienced Consultant to assist with developing and coordinating capacity building activities related to the Local Engagement and Action Fund (LEAF). This is part of the Organizational Strengthening component under the LEAF grant mechanism. The tasks include working with the FSSP-Caribbean Team to identify and develop capacity building activities, and developing a conference for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

BACKGROUND

The LEAF is a grant mechanism under the Field Support Services Project – Caribbean (FSSP-C), which is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC). LEAF supports local organizations in eight Caribbean countries – Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname – to address key developmental issues. The main objective of LEAF is to strengthen the support provided to organizations working in vulnerable sectors by improving access to financial resources to enhance their mandate. LEAF may support issues related to Gender Equality, Human Rights, Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, Gender Based Violence, Youth Engagement and Strengthening Organizational Effectiveness. Each call for proposal will specify which themes will be focused on.

Organizations that are registered not-for-profit entities and fall in the following categories can receive funding under LEAF – non-government organizations, community based organizations, civil society organizations, benevolent societies, foundations, charitable organizations, associations, public educational institutions, federations/networks, and regional organizations.

OBJECTIVE

FSSP Caribbean is seeking an experienced Consultant to support the Organizational Strengthening activities under LEAF. The Consultant will work closely with the LEAF Coordinator to design, coordinate, document, implement and monitor these activities.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

The Consultant will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring all activities related to Organizational Strengthening under LEAF, which include:

  • Identification of thematic areas for organisational strengthening activities for LEAF’s target audience
  • Coordination of organisational strengthening activities such as training workshops for LEAF’s target audience
  • Coordinate the conceptualization, design and logistics for the LEAF Conference
  • Organize meetings and presentations as necessary
  • Prepare outlines, reports and assessments as necessary

The duration of the consultancy is for an initial period of twelve months, and subject to renewal. The anticipated start of the Consultancy is November 2024 with an estimated 8 days per month.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least a First Degree in the Social Sciences or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of three years experience in coordinating, managing and implementing capacity building projects within the CARICOM region.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and strengthening partnerships and collaborative activities.
  • Experience in organizing events and conferences.
  • Experience working with Non-Government Organizations, Civil Society Organizations and Community Based Organizations
  • Experience in designing and implementing Organizational Strengthening Activities.
  • Organizational Strengthening experience in any of the targeted ODA eligible countries would be an asset.  
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication, reporting and interpersonal skills
