As the Communications and Partnerships Advisor with Tumaini in Lilongwe, Malawi, you will support the development of communications and partnership strategies and tools to increase visibility and share success stories with partners and stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the team, support in the development, coordination, and implementation of a communication, partnership strategy and work plan to attract new funding partners
• Support in coordinating and implementing communications activities to create awareness and visibility of the work of the organization in new and innovative sectors
• Collaborate with staff to develop, produce and package communications pieces highlighting the many successes, lessons learned and best practices 
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, stakeholders, and media outlets
• Identify and pursue partnership opportunities with businesses, NGOs, and government entities to support organizational goals
• Ensure that a gender equality lens is consistently applied in the execution of all activities
• Support to offset the environmental footprint of the planned assignment activities
• Support to consider meaningful inclusion of program participants
• Participate in pre-assignment training
• Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment
• Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal
• Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

• Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field
• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communications strategies and work plans
• Experience in marketing and targeting international communities
• Knowledge of digital communications marketing, social media tools, trends, and best practices
• Knowledge of social inclusion and gender equality
• Demonstrated experience in design, and content development
• Minimum two (2) years relevant professional experience in your field of expertise
• A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
• Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
• Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
• Experience living and working internationally considered an asset
• Written and oral fluency in English.

Partner Description

Tumaini Letu (Swahili for “Our Hope”) is a non-profit organization based within the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi. Tumaini Letu exists to promote the social, cultural, and economic inclusion of refugees in Malawi through different programs such as refugee rights advocacy, youth engagement and behavior change, community-based tourism, and entrepreneurship and job creation.Tumaini Letu’s flagship project is the annual Tumaini Festival, which transforms Dzaleka Refugee Camp into a tourist destination attracting tens of thousands of domestic and international tourists. Tumaini Festival promotes cultural exchange and economic empowerment for refugees through the world’s first international festival held in a refugee camp. The festival creates opportunities for people from different cultural backgrounds to learn from each other and celebrate humanity by appreciating each other’s differences. Tumaini is not just a festival; it is a movement that raises the voices of refugees, creates a conversation, and transforms the host community into active advocates for the refugee cause. The festival also boosts economic activities within the camp and offers a platform for the refugee community to sell their goods and services,which improves their standard of living.

• Support and guidance from the WUSC Volunteer Mobilization Team prior to departure and from WUSC Country Team while on assignment
