Assignment Context

Are you passionate about gender equality, social inclusion and diversity? 

As the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor with WUSC Caribbean, you will collaborate with the WUSC Caribbean staff in Kingston, Jamaica working on the Sustainable Agriculture in the Caribbean (SAC) project to support and strengthen equitable, inclusive, sustainable and active participation of women and youth in agricultural markets in the Caribbean.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Support in the development of training curricula for a variety of audiences including staff, partners and project stakeholders and ensure training materials reflect and address gender equality, social inclusion, and diversity principles. This would include supporting engaging men and boys to promote/support women in agriculture in Jamaica
• Support WUSC partner organizations to empower young women and promote a culture of gender sensitive representation in all activities and program benefits in decision-making influence and leadership roles
• Support the development of practical gender sensitive and transformative data collection tools and guides to support gender integration to promote transformative project implementation and achievement of set gender outcomes and supporting project monitoring and evaluation
• Support project communications to ensure materials are gender, age, and youth sensitive, culturally appropriate, and context relevant
• Participate in the WUSC Gender Equality and Social Inclusion community of practice to share experiences, learnings, provide and receive peer-to-peer mentorship, coaching and participate in knowledge sharing sessions 
• Participate in pre-assignment training
• Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment
• Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal
• Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

• Degree in Social Sciences, Education, International Development, or related discipline
• Strong skills in conducting gender equality and social inclusion analysis, developmental strategies and implementation and operational plans
• Experience in conducting capacity assessments, development of gender sensitive data collection tools, monitoring and evaluation of gender equality outcomes
• Experienced in programming on gender equality, equity, inclusion and promotion of diversity targeting of vulnerable and marginalized groups
• Awareness of gender equality and equity issues in the agriculture sector considered an asset
• Minimum two (2) years relevant professional experience in your field of expertise
• A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
• Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
• Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
• Professional experience working or volunteering in the Caribbean is an asset
• Written and oral fluency in English.

The project builds on learning from the Promotion of Regional Opportunities for Produce through Enterprises and Linkages (PROPEL) project and is a multi-country economic growth project, funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) being implemented in Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and Suriname.

Support Package

• Support and guidance from the WUSC Volunteer Mobilization Team prior to departure and from WUSC Country Team while on assignment
