Assignment Context

Are you passionate about managing elements of communication, volunteering and relationships with partners, fostering collaboration between different stakeholders, including private sector, NGOs and government? Do you have volunteer management, engagement and communication skills to share? 

As the Program and Volunteer Support Advisor with the WUSC Uganda office, you will support WUSC volunteers and partnerships in Uganda. You will assist the WUSC Uganda team to coordinate the timely delivery of all volunteer assignments and provide general support to volunteers. You will also support the development of key partnerships, drive key communication components and support implementation of the volunteer program in Uganda.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Review and develop relevant resources, materials and trainings for the WUSC office in Uganda including an in-country orientation for volunteers and volunteer management training for local partners
  • Support WUSC country staff in providing personal and professional guidance to international volunteers to contribute to IGNI+E volunteer assignments and volunteer cooperation program goals (e.g. monitoring and evaluation support, knowledge sharing opportunities, skill sharing opportunities across volunteers)
  • Support handover from incoming and outgoing volunteers to ensure continuity between assignments and to avoid duplication of work
  • Enhance WUSC brand and visibility of the program in Uganda by creating a social media presence including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, WhatsApp, blogs, and emails
  • Develop guides and tip-sheets on best practices for relevant communications topics including guiding the monitoring of WUSC communications reach, collection of stories of change and impact, and suggest areas for adaptation in existing strategies and work plans
  • Participate in pre-assignment training
  • Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment
  • Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal
  • Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree and/or training in Communications, human resources, volunteer management, social sciences or a related field
  • Relevant experience in volunteer management
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent networking skills and partnership management
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant professional experience in your field of expertise
  • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
  • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
  • Experience living and working internationally considered an asset
  • Written and oral fluency in English.
