Assignment Context

Are you passionate about gender equality and empowerment programming? Do you have experience and skills producing communications materials? If so, this might be the assignment for you!

As the Communications Advisor for the Learning through Education and Access to Skills for Employment Project (LEAP) with WUSC in Nairobi, Kenya you will support the development of communication materials and learning products on education and empowerment programming for girls and young women within the refugee and refugee-hosting contexts.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, coordination, and implementation of the LEAP Communications Plan in consultation with WUSC and project partners
  • Develop communications products such as stories of change, blog posts, social media posts, lessons learned and evidence briefs
  • Support identifying opportunities and implementing communications activities to increase awareness and visibility of the project’s work including  for public events and campaigns on international days of celebrations
  • Collaborate with LEAP’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning (MERL) team and project partners on documentation and content development
  • Participate in pre-assignment training
  • Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment.
  • Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal.
  • Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years relevant professional experience in your field of expertise.
  • Degree and/or training in communications, social sciences, or a related field
  • Experience in graphic design is an asset
  • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
  • Experience living and working internationally considered an asset.
  • Written and oral fluency in English.
