International Seminar 2022: Applications Open!

Economic Opportunities for Refugee Youth: A Collaboration between refugees and allies to drive systemic change

Are you interested in diving into complex issues ? Do you thrive in an online team environment? Are you looking to gain firsthand experience in the field of refugee opportunities? If yes, then the WUSC International Seminar is for you!

The International Seminar is an annual WUSC event for young leaders from around the world to collaborate, share ideas, and create long lasting relationships. Each year explores a different contemporary development issue through youth-driven ideas, research and solutions. Since its first iteration in 1948, the International Seminar has seen thousands of participants collaborate on projects linked to women in entrepreneurship, refugee self-reliance and more.

For the 2022 Virtual International Seminar, which will be held from May 9 to June 17, refugees and allies  will collaborate to deepen their understanding of economic opportunities for refugee youth. Over the six weeks, participants will collaborate in order to understand the lived experiences of youth coming from these contexts, and the social and natural systems that enable or constrain access to economic opportunities for young refugees.  Participants will develop their understanding of systems thinking through tailored weekly workshops and mentor check-ins from leaders in relevant fields.

Why should I participate in the International Seminar?

  • Participate in a high quality learning and professional development opportunity.
  • Gain cross-cultural and networking experience.
  • Build practical leadership and analytic skills.
  • Enhance understanding of the enabling environments allowing refugee youth to increase their economic opportunities.
  • Develop and strengthen skills around systems thinking and how useful it can be to understand complex issues.
  • Develop a better understanding of WUSC’s work.
  • Support refugee and host communities to better understand the barriers and opportunities for inclusive economic development.
