WUSC partners with Peace by Chocolate to help create more opportunities for refugees in Canada
Increasing access to quality opportunities for young refugees to learn, work, and lead is core to our vision of a better world for all youth and is a cornerstone of our programming around the world.
- In Kenya, we improve learning outcomes for girls in refugee and host communities with the support of UK Aid and Global Affairs Canada.
- In Canada, our national network of supporters helps resettle more than 130 refugees each year through unique education and economic pathways, such as our Student Refugee Program.
- In several countries across Africa and Asia, in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, our volunteers collaborate with refugee-led organizations to increase economic opportunities for displaced youth.
- Across Africa, we are working with Mastercard Foundation to assist institutions in their efforts to create more enabling environments for refugees and displaced youth.
Today, we’re pleased to announce a new partnership that will help us to achieve even more in our efforts to create a better world for refugees. We have partnered with Peace by Chocolate to launch a new special edition chocolate bar that raises awareness and funds for our refugee resettlement work in Canada.
Peace by Chocolate is a thriving Canadian company, based out of Nova Scotia, that was founded by Tareq Hadhad. Tareq inherited his passion for making chocolate from his father who had run a successful chocolate factory in Damascus, Syria for three decades before the family was displaced by conflict and, eventually, resettled to Canada.
Since launching in 2016, Peace by Chocolate has employed dozens of Canadians and refugees to bring their delicious chocolates to stores across the country. In addition to their philanthropic work, in 2021, they announced a commitment to provide mentorship and guidance to 10 refugee startups. As a local business built by a family with lived refugee experiences who already give back so much to their community, we can’t think of a better partner than Peace by Chocolate to bring you Peace by Piece.
Our sweet new limited edition Peace by Piece chocolate bars, available in either milk chocolate or dark chocolate with blueberries, were specially crafted by the chocolatiers at Peace by Chocolate to support a cause that is important to us both: a better world for refugee and displaced youth. With every chocolate bar sold, one dollar will support our Student Refugee Program, providing young refugees with life-changing opportunities to continue their post-secondary education on Canadian campuses and build a better future for themselves and their families.
So today, on Valentine’s Day, we invite you to show your love for your community by supporting a cause that is close to your heart. By purchasing our delicious chocolate bars you are supporting a local and family-run business, while also supporting young refugees to pursue their dreams through education. Join our community of supporters today and make a difference!
On this day of love, we also want to take this opportunity to show our appreciation to our network of post-secondary students and other supporters across the country for the important work they do to support young refugees.
Together we can create a more peaceful world for youth. One piece at a time.
