Lakehead Committee and International Development Week: Equality Talks!

The WUSC Local Committee at Lakehead University raised students’ awareness of global issues when they held a successful Uniterra symposium on campus during International Development Week in February. The symposium’s theme was equality between women and men. Organizers offered a wide range of activities. Students were invited to decorate and display t-shirts depicting their views of equality between women and men.

The Committee set up a refugee awareness lunch; students drew tickets at random to determine if they would eat a meal similar to one that might be served to students in a refugee camp, or one that might be served to students in Canada. Other events included a sale of items from a Ten Thousand Villages shop, various free lectures and a film screening.

The WUSC Local Committee worked in partnership with the Student Union, Multicultural Centre, Pride Central, Northwestern Ontario Women’s Centre and Thunder Bay Welcome Center to organize this event-filled week.
